“But God removed Saul and replaced him with David, a man about whom God said, ‘I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart. He will do everything I want him to do.’”‭‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭13:22‬ ‭NLT

‬‬a person’s heart is the most important organ to the body, and symbolizes life. it pumps blood to the entire body, breathes oxygen and nutrients  into our tissues, and removes waste. God affirmed David by declaring him as a man after His heart. the Greek word for after is kata. the part of speech is a preposition and a preposition usually comes before a noun or pronoun and expresses a relation to another word. upon further study, kata is defined as denoting motion, diffusion or direction from the higher to the lower. to be more specific, the process of diffusion is when a substance is moved from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration. and as a result, equilibrium or uniformity develop over time.

so essentially, David is described as a man in relation with, against, apart of God’s heart-the essential part of any being. David’s heart was after, or diffused to, God’s heart therefore David lived fully from this place, he worshiped from this place, he fought from this place, he rested from this place.

throughout the Psalms, the imagery David paints is a direct download from God’s heart. we are given insight into how God thinks, feels, and acts and what a heart to heart, intimate relationship looks like. we as a society often try to approach God logically and analytically from our left brain alone yet He also longs to be encountered through our right brain – through creativity, through our feelers, through our hearts. God is not absence of feelings and void of emotion. He longs to be intimate and tender with us. He wants us to come close, to be skin to skin, to rest our hearts against His heart. And it is from this place where we are strengthened and empowered by His greatness, to be His heart, to do His work.

“For the eyes of the LORD move to and fro throughout the earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His.””
‭‭2 CHRONICLES‬ ‭16:9‬ ‭NASB‬‬
